The intelligent energy management system Clee (formerly KWB ComfortEnergy) coordinates all energy producers, storage units, and consumers in a household to maximize the use of free solar energy and minimize external power purchases. The challenge: Visualizing a complete house, showcasing the entire system in action – from solar thermal and photovoltaics to battery storage, inverters, heat storage, pellet heaters, and the EMS. We needed to clearly demonstrate how the system intelligently switches based on temperature, solar radiation, and the changing seasons.
To display such a complex system clearly, cleanly, and with outstanding visual quality, we executed the entire video fully in 3D and CGI. This gave us absolute control over every pixel, allowing us to bring the invisible background technology to life. Additionally, we created a high-resolution key visual that was seamlessly implemented for poster and website campaigns.
To depict the KWB system realistically and with precise detail, we combined deep technical understanding with high-end CGI:
Heat Flow Visualization: Development of a dynamic setup that precisely simulates energy flows in varying colors and radii along predefined pipes.
3D Pellet Simulation: Complex physical simulation of the pellet storage, accurately demonstrating it emptying through the conveyor spiral based on real-world physics.
Snow System & Shader: For the seamless transition into the winter scenery, we programmed a custom setup that procedurally generates realistic-looking snow on surfaces.
Cloud & Smoke Simulation: To animate time-lapse sequences and make the passage of time tangible, we simulated dynamic cloud formations. Furthermore, we generated volumetric smoke from the chimney to visually signal the system’s active heating phases.
